Luvax Bijur lubrication system

Post by 1947rover16 » Wed Feb 22, 2023 6:07 pm

I understand that Fiennes have recently ceased trading. Does anyone know please of other suppliers of Bijur parts or does any member have serviceable parts for a 1947 16 for sale?
Many thanks

Richard
I replaced my meter valves with equivalent modern parts from Interlube, supplied by Meterlube Systems Ltd of Ashford, Kent. The modern valves don't have the correct thread but they can be readily converted by running a 3/8BSF die over the thread. Also they are only available straight so 90 degree adapters are required to replace some of the original Bijur items. I may have one or two usable Bijur items in my pile of potentially useful junk. Let me know what you need.

I've just finished reinstating the lubrication system on my 20. It had been restored in the 80s and the original windscreen wiper motor had been replaced with a more substantial Lucas motor which filled the place where the Bijur pump should have been. This is the 4th car I've reinstated the Bijur system on and I always wondered what I could do if I'd either run out of working pumps or bits to fix them. My mind had turned to the possibilities of a human operated pump as on a Rolls or similar. Faced with the need on this car to actually buy and try something, I bought what is a fairly cheap pump readily available off ebay for about £32 just now.

I wondered where I could locate it and was finding it hard to think of a convenient place to access it regularly when my eye caught the studs which would have been the location for the separate oil filter on this model. I still have the filter unit but apparently it had been removed long ago as being of little benefit. Hard to believe, but the centres of the holes for the bracket on the new pump matched these studs exactly and there was just enough room for the pump to clear the top of the starter motor.

With all the connections now in place, oil does appear to be at all the places it should be and the system pressure seems good. The only two points I had to spend a little more time over were the rear r/h dumb iron and shackle. Instead of having the 3/8" thread, they had a 5/16" BSF thread possibly due to being replacements ? Anyway, I turned a couple of adaptors on the lathe and that made the Interlube metering valves fit.

Hi Dave, Thanks for the reply: I really appreciate your advice.I hope to get the car up on a friend's ramp next week to do an audit of what remains of the original system (disconnected before I bought the car many years ago) and therefore what I need. I have also just been advised by a friend that Ristes Motors in Nottingham may well have original supplies.
I'll get back to you when I know what's what.
Thanks very much for your interest and advice.

I forgot to mention earlier - 2 very informative articles in Freewheel on this topic:

The RSR Spares store can supply some Luvax parts including pump and reservoir. there is lots of piping that requires sorting out and there may be some meter valves. Let me know what you need. Fiennes website is still in operation
