P2 Owner

Post by waynenutts » Wed Jan 06, 2021 7:18 pm

I have inherited my dads p2. He took the engine out and left it on the garage floor, then died on me. I now have the task of putting it back together and hopefully take my mum out in it. I have found someone that has given the engine a going over and he says, it has been re bored, new pistons a little bit of wear on cham, knackered cranck and big ends. Let me know if anyone has a crank and big ends.

Welcome to the Forum Wayne. Sorry to hear the news of your late Dad. Can you tell us the model (10, 12 14 16 etc) and the year the car was registered, alternatively the engine number or registration number number. We may be able to identify the car from our records. Once we know that we can probably advise you where to look for the spares. It is well worth paying to join the Rover Sports Register and buying the P2 Workshop manual and the appropriate parts list that the club publish.
Best wishes

Wayne,

I’d be very surprised if anyone had a spare crank, con rods and main bearing to fit your car so I’d suggest you will need to look at re-using the ones you have. It seems odd that your late Father had the engine re-bored but didn’t get the crank ground and bearings re-metalled at the same time. One has to wonder if those bits were considered suitable for continued use? To that ends it might be worth getting a second opinion on their condition and maybe contacting the engineers who undertook the re-bore? If not, there are specialists who can do the work but it will be expensive.

Tony.
