Hi Folks I am just putting my 1947 Rover 12 Tourer back together from when I dismantled it 35 years ago. Unsurprising that I am at a loss as to where the heater water pipes go !!!!!! If anyone can supply photo's of their cars engine compartment showing all the water pipes it would be much appreciated
There is a rear end cover for cylinder head with a threaded elbow on. Also a threaded fitting in the top of the water pump. Where do these go to ?

Did you get anywhere with your heater pipes etc? I am thinking about putting one into my tourer and am trying to find the bulkhead holes where things might have once fitted! There is an outlet pipe in the cylinder head (rear) that has been plugged with a wood dowel/jubilee clip! So it may have had a heater once (although an export Chassis).
Does anyone have pictures of heaters in Tourers?
Alternatively I am in Stratford on Avon, and could travel, within reason!- to have a look an one fitted

Looking at my bulkhead there is a small oval plate (big enough for a couple of pipes. Which presumably could fit into a double grommet like on Minis or possibly there are two holes/ grommets) in the appropriate place....and another , smaller round one some distance further down (unknown purpose!). No sign of the three mounting holes yet...I will keep looking) I haven't taken the plate off yet to see what is/are shape the hole(s)
It is fitted by a couple of 2BA size slotted round head screws. Not sure if a self tapper (unlikely if original build) or with a nut inside the car. More standing on my head under the dash to see what is behind the carpets etc!

Right! Mine has an "export" chassis no, but was supplied for UK sale to Kent, It appeared to change hands very rapidly. How it avoided the "Covenant" forbidding sale of a new car -within two(?) years one can only imagine. Motor traders did not have a good name in those days! The end cap on the cylinder head has about2" of rubber pipe wit a wooden plug and a jubilee clip! Was this how Rover closed this water outlet? There is only one pattern end cap in the parts list so it had to be blocked somehow- or a heater fitted. Nothing in the parts lists.The tourer dash isn't suitable for demister vents either! The heater from Clayton WEAS available wit a rheostat on the circular body, and without demister outlets! It all sounds a bit DIY!

The parts catalog pictures refer to 1947. This is the first year when heater was introduced to the hard top models. The head back seal with the thermostat and hot water outlet was introduced only in that year, they were not needed previously, and were different. The tourer project aimed in exporting the cars to India, according to the "export or perish" policy. Production began later that year; India became independent and there was a long strike in the ports. Rover was about to run out of business because of the negative cash flow and begged the government to allow local sale of the tourers.
