Does anybody know the history of this Rover? :

(car in background of photo - supposedly Erling Poppe in A Rover racing at the 1926 BARC Autumn meeting.)

What is the history of this car - Were there any other racing Rover's pre war?

The car is a based on a 16/50. We know of probably three racing 16/50 cars, though it is possible that they were all the same car with different bodies. Here is a short piece I wrote about the cars, if anyone can expand on my knowledge then please feel free to let me know.

The Racers

How many were there? We know one was known as Odin, we have pictures of number 7 and number 9 racing at Brooklands. Were all three the same car re-bodied?
Odin – May 1926 report in Autocar. Single-seat bodywork, painted orange, high bonnet line with no bulge for magneto. Central driving position, must have had devious arrangement for steering as the steering box is on the right hand side of the engine, even on the twin-carb engine.
Number 7 – Photograph in Oliver’s book. The car has a very clean low bonnet line without the bulge on top for the magneto. There is also only one bulge on the bonnet side. It’s a bit difficult to tell from this one photograph whether the car is single or two-seater but it looks like the driver is on the right-hand side.
Number 9 - lower bonnet line with a bulge in the top for the magneto. Also has two bulges on the bonnet side, the lower one will be over the two carburetors but what is the upper bulge for? Seen in at least three photographs, racing at Brooklands in September 1926. It is a two seater. Three photographs were found on the web at the Austin Harris site, see http://www.austinharris.co.uk/photo/192 ... eting/2456 and http://www.austinharris.co.uk/photo/192 ... eting/2595 which was a race held on Easter Monday 1927.
