Your right the lamps are from the 30s not the 50s and they would not look right on a P4

It looks like it should be side mounted onto a front wing

Hi Dirk, Its a little belated, they originated during the 1930s, ' Snowdrop ' had one mounted on the drivers side door post pre-war. When I spoke to the grandson of the first owner last year, he told me that they were used to light up the road signs at night. The signs were generally very small and with pre-war headlamps quite dim.
I will replace Snowdrops lamp as it was fitted pre-war.
