Rover 19??

Post by einota » Sun Oct 10, 2010 2:53 pm

Hi,
I wanted to ask, whether it is possible to identify a Rover's model and the release year just by looking some pictures ?
If someone's interested, I am willing to trade this project for a Mini Van or a Mini Pickup.
The Rover's located in Estonia.

The radiator grille points to a late 1920's early 30's Rover, but the strange thing is the centre bar - I haven't seen a Rover of this era with this - Cheylesmore Sheet metal co. ltd was also a company Rover used.
The body though doesn't look like Rover.

Hope you manage to find out for sure - I think it will take a brave person though to restore it!!

It looks like a 10/25 1929-1931ish if you look you can see where the tank fitted onto the bulk head, however I cant see
if the water pump is on the left hand side of the engine or if its earlier model and had mag ignition it would be on the right hand side.
If you look at the advance/retard on the steering they are on the outside of the column as from 1932 they were down the centre of the column.
Oil filler on the right hand side complete with chrome cap. I have a 1932 10 special and it has a centre bar on red grill and is virtually the same car but with a 4 speed gearbox instead of 3,
If you want any further pics etc just send your email and I will send some pics.
I would suggest you look at the following advert it will confirm your findings.

This remarkably rare 10 H.P Rover was registered on the 30th June 1932. According the brown 'buff' logbook, the Rover has been a blue car from new and we know the car spent at least 24 years in Herefordshire from 1950 to 1974. Records show the Rover moved North to Lancashire in 1974 and by 1990 was in Leeds, West Yorkshire. The car spent 19 years with the one Doctor owner in Leeds before ownership with one of our regular customers in 2009. We have invoices from 1990 when a substantial sum was spent on some re-commissioning work with Naylor Brothers restoration and photographs prior to this of a full body off restoration. The photo's show the bare rolling chassis and several stages of the restoration are present.

The Rover presents very well with lovely, bright older paint. The body is structurally excellent and chrome work is clean and smart all round. The interior has been beautifully trimmed and the dashboard and gauges are exceptionally clean. The engine is clean and looks presentable for local shows. The Rover holds the road well and has keen, sharp brakes. The engine is strong with no smoke and the oil pressure remains very good when warm. The original number WP 2163 has stayed with this honest and very charming Rover.

During the summer of 2010 the Rover has gone through an extensive workshop programme of work costing in the region of £2,000. The work included the fitting of a replacement gearbox with a newly engineered speedo drive, re-conditioned autovac and removal of in-correct electric fuel pump and system. The fuel tank was removed and re-furbished, the radiator re-conditioned and the dynamo rebuilt.

A rare, desirable pre-war Rover that is usable and perfect for touring or showing.

regards Dave

Hello,

My first guess would be an early 10/25 However there were also some full body Rover 9s made and it even possible it was a version of the model 6 with a 4 cylinder. Given that there does not appear to be a body so it most likley means it was a Weyman fabric bodied car as well.

Good Luck

Only just seen this, but can confirm it's a 10/25 of 1930 or 31. Rather too far gone to justify restoration, though there's enough there that could be built up to make a special. Does it still exist and where is it?
If going for parts I'd like the wheels, or just the wheel centre hubs.
