Odd rear axle

Post by lakesrally » Tue Feb 11, 2014 1:24 pm

The rear axle that came with my 1933 14hp Pilot is a bit of an odd one. It has a filler at the back, which is correct for a 1933 Pilot but it also has a filler on the passenger side, which would be correct for a 1934 car. The nose is the same pattern as a 1934 car, not correct for a 1933 car. The most obvious answer is that at some time a slightly later diff has been fitted without changing the rear plate but I would like to hear from anyone who has another theory.

Hi Stewart,

I think you have the correct answer, cannot see any other solution.
1934 ( 1935 model ) P1 '10' Saloon RD 6160
1935 P1 '10' Saloon ( originally JB 6729 ) now VSJ 156
1946 P2 '14' Sports Saloon KPG 855
1933 MG J2 Cycle Wing Model APB 560
