Correct brown cloth edging for 1946 P2 Brown Carpet

Post by bruceclaudette » Tue Jul 23, 2013 11:42 am

Hello Friends,
I am having new carpets made for my black 1946 Rover 16 Sports Saloon with brown interior.
I am keen to make them authentic
The correct brown cloth edging is unobtainable from the usual sources like Woollies.
One can get brown leather like edging but this is not correct.
Does anyone have some left over or know of a source please?
Someone in RSR had a stock of surplus authentic rad and bonnet tape and door draught edging six years ago when I had the body restored but I have no recept or address now.
I'll be grateful.
Regards,
Bruce

Hello Bruce I believe that you need pasting lace. see http://shvps.org.uk/Allan White V1.pdf -

This is the story of a vintage Humber restoration. The relevant section is:-

“I had for some time been looking at to see what braiding was available, but really none came up to the mark, so the next option was the possibility of having the correct diagonal braid manufactured
The Internet revealed only one manufacturer, Trimmings by Design in Derby (http://www.trimmingsbydesign.co.uk)
I had a number of conversations with Trimmings and a colour sample of material was dispatched along with a piece of the original braid
I needed two types of braid to be manufactured, known as ‘pasting lace’ and ‘piping lace’
The former has the embossed design running along the length with a selvedge edge on one side; whilst the latter has a selvedge edge on both sides with the design in the middle, it will then have a piping chord sewn in to form a ‘P’shape and is used in conjunction with the pasting lace “

Hope that this helps

regards

Mike
