Rear brakes locking on

My vehicle is a 1949 75 and I have twice recently had the rear brakes lock on after braking quite sharply. New remanufactured shoes were fitted a few months back and the brakes have been adjusted frequently over the period to cater for the bedding in. I never experienced this problem with the previous shoes which had to be replaced because of an oil seal failure.
The shoes are a proprietary make supplied by a well known Rover parts specialist and I have no reason to doubt them.
No alterations were made to the brakes apart from the aforesaid.
Can anybody throw any light on this problem for me? Many thanks.

Are the actuator housings free to slide in the slots on the back plates? The nuts on the housing's studs should be tightened just enough to nip the spring washer, so the shoes can centralise. It may be worth checking this point and ensuring that the slots are free of crud and the housing and backplate should have a smear of grease on reassembly. I would then release the adjusters, press the pedal to centralise the shoes and then adjust.

Hope that this helps

Mike

Hi Mike.
Thanks for your reply.
I should have remembered that from my ownership of a P5B.
I will check it out tomorrow.
I am most grateful for your interest.

Hello Mike.
The nuts were done up so tight that nothing could move!
Both sides freed, cleaned, greased and nuts tightened and then backed off one turn.
Problem solved. Many thanks.
