P3 exhaust silencer mount

Does anyone know how to mount an original exhaust silencer on a 1948 P3? After a long search, I found an original exhaust silencer to replace the defective non-original one. It has two different connecting pipes and flanges. On one side there is a short straight pipe, and on the other side an angled, somewhat longer, and slightly thicker pipe with a slightly larger flange. But which of the two goes on the engine?

I read your post but as I have never had a P3, I thought I wasn't in the best position to reply to you. However, in the apparent absence of something more informative, I thought the attached photo might be of use. It shows the bent piece of pipe being towards the front of the car and the silencer set at an angle.
