Fuel reserve unit for P2 12hp tourer

Post by David2021 » Mon Mar 14, 2022 10:54 am

Does anyone know for certain what the two pick up pipe lengths are? They are measured from underneath the flat face of the unit.
The 12 tank is different size /capacity to the 10 & 6cylinder cars.10.5 gallons against 10 or 11.75
Lucas 78000 is 9"+ ? & 11.7/16" (I cannot decipher the poor copy!)and that, logically, appears to be for the larger tank
78001 7.3/4" & 10.1/2"
I suspect it is part 78001 for the 12hp. Luli suggests 8" in his excellent "how to do it", but I was not clear which car this was, nor which pipe, nor where he measured from!

Hello David
I've just measured my spare unit and the lengths are 9.9 and 10.9 inches approx. (15/16 in old units). My reading of the parts lists is that all models use the same reserve tap except 10 saloon and coupe. I did have a 6-cyl tank ages ago and from memory it was the same height and width as a 12 tank but deeper front to back (brain cells could be letting me down here, of course). I got a better tank for my 12 a while ago but still have the old leaky one. The sides and top are not too bad - it's the much bodged bottom that's the problem. If you think it might be of use to you, it's yours!
Best of luck, DaveM

Should have said measurements are relative to the mounting flange!
