Year numbers

Does anyone know when Rover started to put a year number into the car identification number? We know they were doing it for the P1/P2 cars from 1934. My 1933 Pilot number starts with 33, does this indicate the model year? My 1925 car is number 130 so it does not look like they were doing it at that time but we know of slightly later cars where the numbers start 46, 47 48 and 49 and we are wondering if the second digit is a clue to the years 1926, 1927, 1928 and 1929. Can anyone relate their early car number to a year? Are there any clues in the RSR membership database Andrew McG?

Stewart. only just seen this one. I have just looked at the archive. 1933 cars' chassis numbers all start with a 3, but unlike the '34 cars (6 digit Chassis numbers), there are 4, 5 and 6 digit chassis numbers.

There is very little consistency before that.

Hello there Stewart

Mike has beaten me to it, and I agree with his comments entirely.
