Re: 1947 rover
I have in the past done a pressure test on a VW engine, rigged up a hose from the compressor to no.1 cylinder via the sparkplug hole, with both valves closed, gave it a bit of pressure and checked if there was any obvious leakage. air out of the radiator reservoir most likely culprit head gasket, en...

Re: Faint ticking
Hi Tony, At one point in time the vehicle has been towed on the front axle and this has squeezed the O/S Luvax so there has been a lack of lubrication for some time, I did think it was odd that the O/S went, with the state of the roads I would have not been too surprised if the N/S had gone but the ...

Re: Faint ticking
I went out today to Madresfield court today a and a neighbour came along for the ride, when I mentioned the ticking noise he thought that it might be the speedometer internals meshing together, this might well be the case as the noise does emanate from behind the speedometer and varies with the spee...

Re: Faint ticking
Thank you for your reply Luli, I have had a go at the wheels, all seems well, the one thing that sounds vaguely like the ticking noise is that there is a fair bit of play in the O/S king pin, this is something I have never played with before, looking in the workshop manual the new bushes need to be ...

Faint ticking
I have just returned from Mallory with COA550 and have noticed a faint ticking, not the clock, not engine or gearbox related, just when moving forward or rear, in fixed or free wheel and the frequency changes with forward speed. When in free wheel reverse does not engage and just ticks, having never...

Re: Jacking points
Thank you Keith, I thought it must be the case that they are slightly loose and spring loaded, I have made a converter so I can use an hydraulic jack instead of the original. The original jack will stay with the vehicle but for emergency use an hydraulic jack is a lot quicker and easier,

Re: Jacking points
Thank you for your suggestion David, I am now sure they are as some engineer intended, I can't see how I can access the lifting points from inside the vehicle though. I'll just avoid flat tyres I think.

rewire on the books
Good evening all, In my recommissioning efforts I found an electrical wire from the head light switch to a junction box to have melted and corroded quite badly, I have now provisionally booked Mathilda in for a complete rewire, extravagant some may say but my knowledge and joy with all things electr...

Jacking points
A good afternoon to you all, I am looking for a bit of information about the jacking points on the front suspension, I am in the process of oiling, greasing and recommissioning Mathilda and have found that the jacking points are loose on the suspension. Is that on purpose so the suspension leaves ca...
