Re: Boot handle locks
Cannot help with the single one but the double one looks to be from 1940 and 47/48 models?

Re: Cross Ply tyres Vs Radial Ply tyres
Air pressure from the tube would force the tyre rim outwards into the sides of the wheel bead but whether it would stay in contact with the bottom of the bead well in use especially braking and cornering is unknown. The outside width of the wheel is 4½" also. I think I read somewhere that unrated sp...

Re: Cross Ply tyres Vs Radial Ply tyres
Yes the width is the tyre tread - I have an empty wheel and will measure it soon - 4" seems right

Re: Cross Ply tyres Vs Radial Ply tyres
Most informative - I do not know what Rover 10 owners do in the UK. The Avon tread pattern was most decorative but not very water dispersant. I have one on a spare wheel but given it must be over 60 years old I do not intend to drive on it! The Google translator although set for UK English (why shou...

Re: Cross Ply tyres Vs Radial Ply tyres
5.25/5.50 are the nominal widths in inches - the actual width was somewhere in between on this dual size. The aspect ratio (height) is almost 100% on cross plies - radials mostly have less than 80% so are much lower

Re: Cross Ply tyres Vs Radial Ply tyres
Never heard about a 17" radial for P2s but I have no problems driving on newish X plies in our P2.
I have tried X plies in P4s and P5s and others 30 years ago and hope never to do so again.
I really do not see the benefits of X plies in a prewar car

Re: Gearbox and rear axle oil
I agree if the brakes are working OK its best to leave them. You should be able to slide a new boot over the rod from the compensator end if the clevis fork and locking nut is unscrewed but the fork must be replaced the exact number of turns on the rod. In any event the boot is riveted to a plate wh...
