Painting the chassis

Post by neil.henderson » Sun Dec 18, 2011 8:14 am

Hi,
I need to wire brush the chassis & sills on my P3 - and then paint them with a protective coating. And I'll probably treat them with with and anti-rust phosphoric acid product as well.
Have other members done this with their cars? I'm interested in what's the best method to get access and if there are any preferred products (I'm thinking about spraying on POR-15 chassis paint). I'm also thinking about jacking the car as high as I can on axle stands.

Any ideas/suggestions gratefully received

Thanks Neil

Hi Neil,

What you intend doing sounds good, hopefully your car will not have suffered the sort of rot caused by the use of rock salt on icy roads in the UK.

The main consideration is safety. A UK based RSR member died just over a year ago as a result of injuries sustained when his car slipped from a trolley jack and crushed him. Please make sure that your car is well supported before crawling underneath. Better still work in a pit if one is available.

Hi,
Just wondering if you have completed the painting?
If so what were the results like?
I am having to replace the sills on my P2 and am considering what paint to use.

If you are interested I am adding photos of progress on photobucket:

a google search on 'wouldhee' will find the photobucket page or the the one below should work!
