P3 spring shackle nuts

Post by byb » Tue Aug 22, 2023 8:19 am

Having lost during the nuts to the shackle bolts during strip down I need to identify the thread before sourcing a new set. The parts manual refers to the bolts as 9/16 inch but does not state what the thread type is. Can anyone help with this info please ?

This thread would usually be BSF. If you check the bolts with a thread gauge, 9/16 BSF has 16 teeth per inch according to tables. In the day, the nuts would have been all metal. Modern self locking nuts have nylon inserts.

Hope this helps

Many thanks that’s a great help. Namric can supply these with, (as you point out), the modern equivalent with a nylon insert. No doubt the originals will surface at some point but I need to move on with the reassembly so faced with buying new.

Thanks again and my own thoughts confirmed re BSF.
