Freewheel Adjustment Spanner

Post by chris dancey » Thu Dec 19, 2013 12:38 pm

I have nearly completed a full tool kit for GEV, Rover 10hp Coupe 1938, but I am at a loss to know what a ' Spanner for Freewheel Adjustment ' ( from the parts list ) looks like. If you have an original for sale I would be happy to purchase, or even to know what one looks like so that I can attempt to source one.

I am also on the look out for an original jack for the above. Thanks

Chris the freewheel spanner looks like a very small single ended box spanner. Ibeleive the jack for GEV is the pillar type, with nut on top and a round bar at right angles to the pillar, that fits into the tube on the chassis cross member. The tube is usually accessed via the hatch in the floor. You will also need a jack handle.

Hope this helps

How this is used? It seems as if in order to use it you need to remove the freewheel cable from the gearbox, while by using a simple open ended spanner it can be done without removing the cable.

Hi, adjusting the freewheel means adjusting the length of the cable once the screw clamp (solder less nipple) is fixed,
like on a push bike brakes or gear change two open end spanners are required to adjust this,
the little box spanner may remove the dashboard nob but wont adjust the freewheel setting.
Cheers Jeff Lee.

Thanks. But the name is somewhat missleading.

Yes, I was having difficulty working out how one would utilise a box spanner on the Freewheel linkage. it can only apply to the freewheel handle central nut. Thanks for clarifying.
