Smiths water temperature gauge

Post by 36t46s » Fri May 29, 2009 1:19 pm

This working gauge was taken from a pre-1939 Rover where it had been fitted as an accessory. It has a chromed bezel and 1.8m of capillary tubing and is calibrated from 90 - 212 degs. Fahrenheit. It is the same size as the Jaeger oil pressure gauge, 51.7mm in diameter. I have fitted one of these to my 1936 tourer by cutting a hole in the dashboard. The bulb fits into the thermostat housing, with an adaptor instead of the brass plug. I have advertised it elsewhere for £65.

Sorry to hear you've cut a hole in the dashboard to fit this. The neater way to do this would have been to fit a combined oil pressure / water temp gauge in place of the oil pressure gauge. Such gauges were fitted to most 1939-49 cars - newly overhauled gauges with the correct matching dials, chrome rim and dome glass are usually available.
