Original Lifting Jack

Post by chris dancey » Tue Mar 11, 2014 7:19 am

I am looking for an original lifting jack for my Rover 10hp 1935, and for my 1938 Coupe.

The '35 jack is by Lake & Elliott, originally green colour and a rounded bell shaped body, a special keeper/ shoe wedge is fitted to the top of the screw thread to attach to the u shaped bracket on the springs.

The '38 jack is a column with an arm coming out that fits the mounting through the trap door in the floor, a ratched handle winds the jack arm up and down at the top.

Thanks, Chris

I have found and bought an original Lake & Elliot CO1377 green bottle screw lifting jack for the '35 10hp off ebay. The seller did not know what he had as it came with a job lot of Morris Traveller parts. After 30 years of looking I finally found one...and a good price too.

I have since sold the ' 38 Coupe so lifting jack no longer required.

Hi Chris, So are you saying that you have a column jack / ratchet handle available for sale
which would be suitable for a 1938/39 P2 ?? If so, then I'm interested in this jack, as this is
the only item / tool I am missing for my P2. Or have I misunderstood your last post.

If anyone has any information on refurbishing either the hydraulic jack or the crank handle Bevellift jack I would appreciate knowing anything about them - I am loth to take them apart with no idea of how they are put together. My hydraulic jack is seized anyway so brute force may have to be the first step!

Sorry Chris. I was looking for the ' 38 jack myself also, but have since sold the Coupe so no longer required. When I bought the '38 car from Neal Powell he told me that the car came with a jack that he had bought from Meteor Spares, but it was not the correct jack ( in fact it was a morris one ) so I sold it and continued to look for the correct type.

I did come across one in Scotland, but missed it due to me being away.

The jack I found on ebay recently is correct for ' 35 ....a totally different type to the '38 type. In fact the '34-36 type has an open gearwheel and the '37 type is the same jack but the gearwheel is enclosed. Sorry if I was confusing.
