steering

hello thanks for letting me in I have bought a 1946 12 although the car is in great condition the steering is impossible to turn you couldn't drive it like it is
I disconnected the steering arms from the actual box and it is still hard to turn .and when I did drive the car it was clover the road .does anybody know what my next steps should be or where I can the box refurbished I am in the Manchester area any help would be great

Hi Dex,

Re steering box, a good person to contact would be Calum Barrow. I contacted him with a view to refurbishing my 12 Tourer box last year and he clearly knew all about P1/P2/P3 worm and nut steering and has huge experience with Series 1 Land Rovers. As it turned out i didn't get around to taking the box out of my car, but I think I will this coming winter and Calum will be my first port of call. For king pins, i'd suggest contacting Mike Evans or Mike Cauldry (Meteor Spares). You will need to source a reamer to fit them.
