Bronze statuette of Rover viking

Post by juvenal » Sat Jan 31, 2009 12:50 pm

Hi all.

I have a 6" tall bronze statue of the Rover Viking, winged helmet and hunting horn at belt, cast in one piece and standing on a bronze plinth. It came originally from the small foundry in B'mham which produced cast items for Rover. What was it for? When was it made? Did it belong to a specific model, or is it a desk ornament? or is the statue something which never went into mass production?

Any experts help me?

Thanks

Jan

The small statuette was an accessory available in the 1920s, a number of cars from this period have one. One web site with info on Rover badges etc (though not all are shown) is http://www.rover-v8.nl/dutchroverarchives/index.html" target="_blank" target="_blank" target="_blank select Miscellaneous and the then select Rover Logo. A picture of one of the little statues is shown there, photo number 3.
