New Rover Model Car.

Post by BHM » Sat Feb 20, 2010 5:23 pm

I have been a lifelong enthusiast (now 62 yrs young!) of British cars in general, and Rovers in particular (I was once a Rover salesman). I have also, for many years, collected model cars.
I am currently doing a feasibilty study to determine the demand (if any) for a new range of model cars (British) that have rarely, if ever, been produced.

The first model would be the Rover P3. This would be in 1/43rd scale (approx 4ins long), and would be handbuilt, of excellent quality with exquisite detailing.
This would be a model for adult collectors and not a toy. Number would be limited to, say, 5/600 for worldwide distribution and each model would come with a Certificate of Authenticity. Price would probably be within the region of £89 plus p&p per model.

I am not doing this to make money. I am aiming at collectors, such as myself, who would appreciate never, or rarely, produced models being in their collection. Alternatively, Rover enthusiasts who would like to see such a model on their mantlepiece or desk.

Should the first model prove popular, I would then bring out the second, etc. The range would be known as "British Heritage Models", hence my username (BHM).
All comments will be greatly received. Many thanks.

Hi BHM and welcome to the forum.

I think you have an excellent idea there and although not a P3 owner would certainly like to add one to my small collection of Somerville P2s

The 1948 Rover P3 (6 light) handbuilt model has now been publicised in Model Collector (Sept. issue) and Model Auto Review (no. 244). Advertising for the model will begin next month. To date, there have been pre-orders for 66 of the first 100 models, to be produced. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in October.

Any remaining Sports Register members wishing to purchase a model (subject to seeing it) can do so by emailing me at: safran@talktalk.net or phoning me on 01244 320761, to register their pre order.

When the first 100 have sold out, there will be a wait of approx. 4/5 months before the second 100 are ready. Retail price is £89 plus £5 postage (within GB mainland. Overseas shipping at cost). Special discounted rate of £79, plus postage, for bona fide Sports Register members. Model will be limited to a maximum of 399 for worldwide distribution and comes with a numbered Certificate of Authenticity. Anyone wishing to purchase this model as a Christmas present, are strongly advised to pre-order as soon as possible.

Thank you all, for your support. Best wishes, Frank.
