Down in the Antipodes spending some wet weather time perusing forum bloggs etc brought to mind a question I’ve been pondering for some time and that is the name of our club. “Rover Sport Register”

I’m certain one of two of you learned members will explain the reason or how the name came about.

Thank you in anticipation.

Hi Mike,

The club was started in 1953 by a bunch of enthusiastic owners of pre-war Sports Tourers. If you hit the ‘About’ tab twice at the top of the RSR web page it takes you to a short overview of the club origins. Not easy to navigate to unless you know it’s there, which is probably why you missed it. Interestingly, I think the 1937 12 Saloon in the top left of the section is DMB 750, which I am currently restoring.

I am fortunate to also own a Sports Tourer and, I believe, that another club member’s car once belonged to one of those original club founders. I don’t know what records exist of those early days but it would be good to know of cars and owners as an aid to tracing vehicle histories. I seem to recall reading that the club was located in Middlesex, North London and, while I doubt they were club registered, my car TL 6200 and David Moseley’s COA 550 were also resident in that area in the 1950s.

With that in mind, if anyone has any knowledge of those early enthusiasts and/or my car TL 6200 it would be great to hear from you. I am fascinated by the history that these great old cars have travelled through but I have no idea who owned my car between 1939 and 1958.
