Rover Salesman’s Manuals
Rover Salesman’s Manuals
A question: Did Rover have Salesman’s Manuals for Rover cars before they created the first Salesman’s Manual for Land-Rover in 1956?
The LR edition clearly states that it was a preliminary work, and is well done. It would be superseded by another version in 1957. (Publication no.’s 506 and 506/a). More editions followed.
I am curious how sales support existed prior to 1956. I see that Rover was producing “technical details” pamphlets for Rover cars as early as 1951. These too exist for Land-Rover, though I have never seen any prior to the Series IIA in the early Sixties.
For the curious, there are at least seven different PDFs available on the net for Land-Rover Salesman’s Manuals in various places. 1956, 57, 62, 68, 80, Range Rover 1973 & 74.

They certainly did. The earliest ones I have seen are from the early 1930's.

Re: Rover Salesman’s Manuals
Very interesting. Given the 1956 of for the Land-Rover landed at ninety pages, the pair shown on this link from 1937 & 39 certainly grew in sophistication.
Thank you, this is useful for the introduction for the article and footnoting with a link.

Re: Rover Salesman’s Manuals
A question and a correction. First, while looking through the sales brochures, they talk about an "automatic chassis lubrication" system. What is it actually doing? OK, editting this - https://www.rover-forum.thersr.co.uk/vi ... 812#p11242
Second. a quick note, the link referenced above - http://www.1947rover.co.uk/ now generated a 404 error as of April 2020.
However, the Internet Archive did manage to find the site before it vanished. Goto -

Anyone ever found versions from the 1950's?

Re: Rover Salesman’s Manuals
Just following up, as I prepare an article on the Land Rover salesman's manuals for the club magazine. I managed to get copies of the 1937 and '39 manuals when they were still available, but were there others that complemented the multi-page brochures available in the Thirties, or earlier?
Thank you,

Re: Rover Salesman’s Manuals
My Rover website has been moved and has a new address. When I sold my P2 the new owner didn’t want the website and I kept paying the fees for a few years but with rising costs I took the site down. Last year after a lot of requests I found a free hosting available and the site is back with a bit more information. There are still a few things that need to be posted but most of it is there with a separate page to plenty images, brochures, salesman’s booklets, traffic actors and more.
