Is this car still around?

Post by 47p2 » Wed Oct 08, 2008 9:49 pm

I received an email form Irene regarding a car her father owned.
Hello John

Please forgive my intrusion.

I have found a photo of a Rover (16?) which belonged to my dad in the 1960s and I wondered if there was any way I could find out where she is now.

Thanks
Best wishes
Irene
If anyone knows the whereabouts of this vehicle or has any information could you please let me know and I will pass on the details to Irene

DVLA enquiry says:
VEHICLE ENQUIRY Services Provided By DVLA: DVLA

Vehicle details could not be found

As it has not been possible to locate the vehicle details,
which could mean that it's been scrapped but also could mean that it s presently unlicenced (been off road since before SORN came in).

The P2 looks like a prewar model with the wire wheels and the single horn and pass lamp to the one side, only the 20hp had the central pass lamp. Post war Sport Saloons had the central pass lamp and twin horns.

You never know it might be tucked up in a barn somewhere

No side bonnet vents either so not a 16 either. Probably the 14 with the antiquated early 30's engine as opposed to the more powerful 100mm unit used on the 4's and 16 & 20 6's

Nice period picture particularly the roof rack and the dual dip pre-focus head lamp converters

According to Glass's index of registration numbers, CMJ was a Bedfordshire series issued from April to July 1939, so yes a pre-war Sports Saloon although given Rover's habit of using up what was in the parts bin, I'm not sure that the apparent lack of vents in the bonnet side is that significant given the proximity of the War. The wheels are not correct for a 1939 model, although they fit and some would say that they look better than the pressed steel wheels. The bonnet is certainly long enough for a 6 cylinder car, so it could be a 14 or indeed a 16.

Unfortunately, the RSR has no archive records of the car, so sorry we can't help with any more details. It may still turn up!

Wires were offered for a 39 model my 16 has them. I would say its a 38 or 39 model as it looks to have the early type door handleds (as mine does) but the registation seems to confirm the latter

The registration 'MJ' was in fact LUTON (Beds) right up until 1974, and applied to 'NM' and 'TM'.
