The vacuum diaphragm unit is leaking on my lucas distributor on the above vehicle. can some one who has experienced this problem enlighten me how do i go about removing it for repair, or do i have to take the complete distributor out first and then dismantle.the diaphragm must have deteriorated over time.awaiting the usual expert advice that comes from this great forum regards Derrick.Smith.

Hi Derrick. I had the same problem many years ago and it can be removed ok but I cannot remember exactly how I got it off, I'm nowhere near home just now to check. I think there was a pin to remove that fastens it to the contact base plate. I'm sure someone will know.

There is a little circlip on the micrometer screw, preventing the round micrometer nut from going all the way out. After removing that circlip you will be able to take the vacuum unit out. It is better done on a workbanch and not in the engine bay - the circlip is tiny and it is easy to loose it.
