Strange grease nipple

Hi, there is an odd grease nipple on the wooden bulkhead of my 1933 14hp Pilot, see below Image but I can see no reason for it. I've checked photos of another Pilot and this item is not there on that car. I can only think that it is where a grease gun should be mounted but that would need some other means of support. Has anyone got any knowledge or contemporary photographs of an engine bay showing this?

Hi Stewart,
Could it be the male part of an old type presstud ?
cheers Jeff.

Hi Jeff, closer inspection today revealed that it is not a grease nipple but just a round disk shape on the top of a short pillar. Still no idea why though.

Hi Stewart

Tecalmet grease guns were supplied with most of the 1933 models and secured to the front bulkhead of the car.

That particular 'nipple' you mention is where you slot the greasing end, the part at the end of the flexi tube that slides over the cars grease nipples.

There should also be 2 clips on the bulkhead to the right of the 'nipple' that hold the brass body of the gun (which are missing on your bulkhead) and then the greasing end
slips onto the 'nipple' that is on your bulkhead, and the grease gun is held securely in place and readily available.

I have this arrangement on my 1933 10 special.

Best regards
Andrew

Great Andrew, this is pretty much as I suspected. Any chance of a photo or two so that I could make up replicas of the clips?

All the best,

Hi Stewart,

No problem sending you a photo but when I went yesterday to take a photo of the one on my 1933 10 spcl found battery on camera flat (from lack of use!!!). Am off to Whitley Bay shortly for a few days for a family funeral but will endeavour to get a photo off to you sometime next week.

Regards
Andrew

Hi Again Stewart

I just had a quick search on ebay for 'tool storage clips' and it threw up a large selection of what seems to be called 'Terry Clips' varying in size from 9mm to 55mm. These are exactly like the clips on the bulkhead, you will only require 2 and size will depend on the size of the barrel of the grease gun!! Will still send photo as promised so you can see how/where positioned

Andrew

Thanks Andrew, I have some Terry clips so it should not be a problem if that is all they are.

Thanks Jeff. You're not thinking of going are you? I could do with knowing the length of the front shackle pins.
