Bootstraps

Post by fiddler » Thu Mar 19, 2009 7:51 pm

Hi all
I have a query regarding the P4 luggage space, as I understand from road tests of the time, the P4 had leather straps supplied to secure luggage in the boot because of the sloping floor ...apparently the slots in the edge where the boot lid closes are where the straps were passed through, does anyone have any onfo on this arrangment? where did the straps fasten at the other end? there are metal loops on the underside of the boot lid which seem to line up with the slots .. but its confusing.

I'd like to set up some straps to the original spec if i can but I need to work out how they were fastened.
Thanks in advance

Fidd

I am surprised that no one has replied to this query.
Firstly the straps are not leather, they are of a khaki webbing, with a hook on one end and a buckle at the other. I actually had a set in the boot of my P4 when I got it.
I would be happy to photograph them and give measurements if you are still interested, nearly two years on from your original enquiry!

(I am surprised that no one has replied to this query.)

Are you? I'm not, I've never known a forum with so little responce to mails as this one. The whole idea of a club and its forum is to bring together the vast amount of knowlage and experience that the members have. On the P3 page in 2010 there was fourteen new subjects posted, of those fourteen I posted nine of them. The DVLA says that over 100 P3's still exist surly there owners must have something to say but it always seems to comes down to a hard core of about 6 people who post on this page, I was on another forum on Sunday and posted a request for information on an old garage within 24 hours I had 57 reply's (Southport community forum) - that could be more than the total for the year on this site. Come on guys even if you cant help even a few words of encouragement never go amiss, I've even wonderd if my PC is working sometimes because of the lack of response I've had to some of my posts.

In the absence of any response from the defence I rest my case!

Have to agree I'm afraid to say - the forum does seem to have come to a halt. I think what is disappointing is when people have made an effort to reply only to find no follow up or acknowledgement even. Perhaps we are all guilty of not making more effort!

I think perhaps the real problem could be the club forum tries to cover such a wide range and age of vehicle when there are specialist club sites for the individual models - P4, 5, 6, Modern Rovers etc. so there just isn't the number of people logging in to us.

Not sure what the answer is

Last post on the yahoo forum was 26 of December I think, With the upmost greatest respect and with no agenda to offend the people concerned over the last few years the yahoo site seems to have become little more than a site for announcments of bereavements and condolences.

It's quite interesting looking at the 'number of views' statistics against different topics on this forum - for instance on this one there are 405 views, but only 6 replies! there must be a fair few members / Rover enthusiast looking at the site.
