Window Regulators

Post by EastEndJohn » Thu Jul 09, 2020 2:09 pm

The 1948 P3 window regulators on the two front doors are not the same. Right drivers side is a lever. Left Passengers side is wind-up. The channel for the Right has a ‘curtain rail design so that the two rollers (doughnut shaped) slide in at the ends of the channel. My problem is the Left Passenger channel which does not have the same design. It is designed with two simple knife-edge-blade sections which simply sit on the button type rollers and is thus held in place by gravity alone with nothing to hold the channel in place. Is this standard or can I convert this left side channel into a curtain rail type roller mechanism that will not then be reliant on gravity to keep the window channel on the mechanism arms.

Hi John
The Drivers side window winder is a feature of Rovers of this era. A single movement of the lever opens the window in 1 go. I suspect that it is handed so you may have to go to a left hand drive car if you want to put one on the nearside.

I am afraid that LHD car is not the solution. In my LHD p2 both doors have the "quick release" handles. Also, the structure of the door is different for each type of handle. most probably the spring is broken. See more here: https://wp.me/pXLKy-1qk and here https://wp.me/pXLKy-yp and note the difference between the structure of the door to each lifter type. https://wp.me/pXLKy-2oJ
