I am supposed to be replacing the head gasket, but as ever, nothing goes smoothly. My question here is regarding the head bolts and the water jacket.
At least one of the head bolt (rearmost drivers side) holes in the block communicates with the water jacket below. Somehow I cannot see this as normal. But is it?
My thought are around making up a little grub screw with a slotted head and plugging the bottom of the bolt hole. What does the panel think? Or would they just put that particular bolt in with a liberal pasting of Hylomar blue?

Re: P3 75 1949 engine queation
Not really unusual to have bolts go through to water jacket. I have had a P3 head off , but its a VERY long time ago now. I would get it as clean as possible and put some sealant on the bolt threads, probably a non hardening type.
