kartik the engine no on my 1949 p3 75 is stamped on the top front of the cylinder block on the left hand side, adjacent to the water pump.i had a lot of time wasted looking for this when i needed to obtain a road worthy certificate, until i was wised up to the location.hope this helps regards Derrick.

Derrick,

Thanks for your post.
The only number I came across on the block is " 3 948"
this is the number which is stamped on top of the block, on my left hand side while facing the car.

could this be the engine number or the date of casting of the block?

Here is the flickr link to the picture I took, sorry for the quality as I used my cell phone.

Hi KartiK

I think the No. you have found is a casting number.
The engine number is stamped into the block LHS side face,
on the opposite side of the engine to the number you have found.

So, LHS in front of the first branch of the exhaust manifold on a machined
surface. The engine No. on my 1949 P3 (75) = R 9 417683
On another spare P3/75 engine I have in the workshop the No. = 3 411712 NC

Hope this info is of help
