Location of P3 Chassis Number
Location of P3 Chassis Number
I would be really grateful for some help locating the chasis number of our 1948/9 P3 75. She is in a sorry state and we need to find where the chassis number is located on the chassis (we have found it on the VIN plate). We are trying to get hold of a log book for her. The chassis is covered in many layers of paint so if someone could post a photo of the location it would be a great help and a start to getting another old Rover back on the road!

Hi Vikki,
Are you in the UK? If so the club can help reclaim your registration via the V765 scheme, if that is what you want to do. If you have any old documents such as a tax disc and/or a RF50 or VE60 logbook (buff or green fold out log books respectively) that will help.
If you let me know (PM if you wish) the chassis number and registration, I can check our records to see if we know of the car.
Kind regards

Re: Location of P3 Chassis Number
Hi Vicki,
I have now typed this reply 3 times
no idea where the other 2 went.............
The chassis number is stamped on top of the outer chassis rail. If you open the drivers side bonnet and look vertically downwards you will see that there are 2 chassis rails which join together approximately under the steering box. The chassis number is stamped on top of the outer of those 2 rails and is just aft of where the 2 join (and I mean just aft, no more than an inch).
It is not easy to uncover so suggest you use scrapers & wire brush - I then used paraffin to get rid of the last of the dirt. The number here will match the number stamped on the plate sitting on top of the firewall which you see when you open the passenger side bonnet.
I went out to garage & have a photo for you, but can't work out how to put it on this page I'm afraid, which is perhaps why I 've lost the last 2 replies.
Anway, good luck and hope you find it
Regards Neil

Thanks for your help, we will uncover the car this weekend and have a good look! Yes, we do have a buff log book, so I will look out all the details and PM you with them, Mike. Thanks again, I'll let you know how we get on. The car is in a very sorry state, so I suspect sorting out the ID will be the easy bit!
