Hi does anyone have an idea where i can get some information on my rover's shock absorber. For sure the fron and the rear ones do not match. Is there anyone who has some information and maybe some images?

I have spent years and hundreds of dollars (Australian) getting Luvax shock absorbers reconditioned. I am convinced that they are a waste of effort. The front shocks can be replaced fairly easily by telescopics. Pity to spoil the authenticity of the car but it is a safety issue and the car can shake itself to bits if the shocks are not effective. The rear shocks are a more difficult problem as there s not enough room to install telescopics. What have the UK people done to overcome this?

My experience with Luvax shocks on my 1936 12 tourer has been entirely positive over more than 20,000 miles. Over-filling them (higher than 3/4 inch below the filler plug) can lead to a cracked casting. Derek Stevenson of Stevson Motors reckons that more than half of those he sees are damaged in this way. However, he has found a firm that can weld the castings, so I can now offer for sale a limited number of 2-bolt front and 4-bolt rear reconditioned Luvax shock absorbers.

I had my original luvax shock absorbers reconditioned over 20 years ago, they still perform well, important not to fill the fluid to the top.

JIm, It occurs to me that your car has the small vane type shocker mounted in line with the chassis. Had you thought of trying to fit a later Luvax PR5 or PR6 type at 90 degrees to the chassis rail ( like the 39 10/12/14/16). They are probably easier to recondition and are double acting. I'm pretty sure we can find U shaped brackets in the Club stores and e a pair of shockers as well.

The front shocks that I have are at right angles to the chassis.

Jim. I think we are at cross purposes here. If I'm correct the rear( 2 bolt fixing) shock absorbers on your 1935 car are mounted in line with the chassis rail (32/33 below) while the front shockers as built are small 2 bolt fixing mounted on a plate at 90 degrees to the chassis leg (30/31) below.

The brackets and shockers I was referring to are found at the rear of the car.



If you can find them. better rear shockers than your OE type are the 4 bolt mounting type illustrated below



Is there really no way to fit telescopics to the rear of your car? they will work quite a few degrees out of vertical - see illustration of 1937 14 Fronts below.
