I have a 1946 10hp P2 which is currently undergoing some restoration to the paint work. I've owned the car a while, but used it very little up to now. I've recently sold my P4 and P6, so the P2 will become my main classic for this summer.

All my previous cars have had seatbelts fitted both front and rear..... and I like to do the same to my P2.

Does anybody have any tips or suggestions on how best to fit front and rear belts with minimum butchering. Are inertia reel or static most suitable? Any pointers or recommendations for seatbeat suppliers also appreciated.

I have inertia reel belts fitted into the front of my P3. It is basically a matter of having / making suitable mounting points at the bottom of the B/C post and at an appropriate height for the top mounting point. I cannot remember how the top point was done, but the main thing is that you ensure the load is spread by fitting a suitable plate between the nut and the body frame. I personally think that t is unlikely that you will be able to create mounting points which are as strong as modern vehicles, at least not without welding in additional strengthening, but at the end of the day I still feel it is preferable to have a belt than not.
I have used a company called Quickfit Safety Belt Service http://www.quickfitsbs.com/index.asp to supply belts for my P4's and P6 in the past. I understand they also undertake a fitting service. I have no doubt that there are other suppliers as well.

The late Stan Stokes fitted front belts to 1946 14 saloon. The lower mounts are no problem is the sills are in good order but its the B/C post - bottom mount is very strong if sill not corroded but top roof mount is much weaker and I not convinced about the actualy strenghth of the post as its very slim and not a true box as the inner panel is only tack welded on. The centre bottom mount can be fitted to the chassis rails
