Hi
Looking for information regarding repair or replacement of the water pump,
my current pump has play at the pully, no leaks as yet but a rattle/noise its noticeable on tick over,
not removed as yet, i am looking for guidance if possible,
I have seen in other articles that the pump can be striped down and refurbished, is this something you would advise ?
if not can a replacement pump be purchased ? and from who
i am a HGV mechanic so removal, repair and rebuilding is well within my capability's,
any advice would be welcomed
many thanks
Brian

Mike Evans should be able to help with your water pump

A distinct rumble from an otherwise quiet engine is most likely caused by excessive wear in the water pump bearings. It should not be possible to move the fan blades towards and away from the radiator. I recommend that the bearings should be changed at the earliest opportunity. You will need one sealed bearing, (SKF reference 6302Z) and one ordinary bearing (SKF reference 6302). Both are readily available.
I have emailed an extract from a 1940 parts list showing an exploded diagram of the pump and another from the RSR P2 Workshop manual, relating to replacing the water pump bearings. These may prove useful, however their use is covered by the RSR’s standard disclaimer. “The information is provided in good faith, but neither the RSR, nor any individual member is responsible for any incident arising from its use however caused”.
The Workshop manual can be ordered on the RSR website.
Hope all this helps
Mike

The water pump can be removed from your car without taking the radiator off (I have exactly the same car and did it several times over the recent 53 years). Read here instructions how to remove and repair the pump.
