The speedometer on 110 is a British Jaeger, black bezel, marked S431/1650 with trip. I believe (hope?) it is the correct/original one. Anyone know? The trip is proving problematical. It works, but has no adjusting cable. The cable fitted in the dash went nowhere as it had the wrong end (as did the replacement).
From the instrument pointing vertically down there is a circular spindle with a cross drilled hole. This should take a sleeve with a tiny threaded pin. I found a couple of these on the Bay of E but one was too short (2,5") and the other too long (6.5"). Neither had a threaded section to locate it in the dash. The longer one could "do a job" by poking down below the dash through the soundproofing/trim.

There is a special cable that connects the speedometer trip with panel. The speedometer itself is different from speedometers of previous years. The trip adjuster in the correct type is in the back and not under.

The parts I have been offered on eBay are described (among others) as suitable for P2 Rovers... The pin drive appear to be consistent with immediately pre war, early post war vehicles. The SS485 would appear to be a development of S641...the revs number is also very close. Perhaps someone knows which model S641/1650 fits.? Are there any Jaeger gurus out there?
The adjuster on yours is as the one that came on the car ...so my speedo seems to be earlier than it should be! I have no idea when it may have been fitted, but the mileage appears consistent since the early 90's. Perhaps the adjuster is the original one !!
I would be interested in a "correct one" - then could supply an early one!

A simple solution will be using earlier type adjuster. You may cannibalize a dead clock or speedometer.

Yes. I think that is the best solution. I need to find one about 4" long so it doesn't stick down too far! What surprises me is that the correct cable will bend through 180 degrees and still work! I will then have to find a use for the redundant hole in the dash....hazard flashers perhaps.
I also have an unused pull / push switch (same type as the dash light one) on the left side of the dash...I might use that for a rear red fog lamp to match the reversing light.
Or wire it into the SU pump circuit as an anti theft device!

That switch is supposed to give a brief measurement of the oil level in the sump. For many years I had used a similar switch to switch on the fuel pump. It always confused local mechanics since it is on when puled out. Such a mechanic would enter the car, push the switch in and then call me: "she doesn't start!"

As you can see from the photo of my dash (whoops- inverted! I) have a switch doing nothing matching the trip control! I also have no heater and what would be the heater Rheostat is in fact the "Pass light" switch....not mentioned in my reprint handbook!
the oil/fuel level switch works fine. and is in the right place! The hole is where the trip cable was before I removed it.
