coincidence or what!

Post by jefflee » Sun Mar 01, 2015 11:57 am

Hi All,
Last night I went to my local and sat down with a chap I knew and was introduced to his friend as (Jeff With The Old Rovers)
His friend then told me of fond memories of his dads 1947 Rover 10 bought new and kept for all this chaps childhood about 16 years.
I will always remember the local Reg No. he says it was DET 800.
You will imagine his shock and delight when I told him this car was now for sale on eBay in Budapest Hungry.
Although he is not in a position to buy it back he was very moved a stated laughingly, My dads old Rover will still be here when I'm gone!
Cheers Jeff. Lee.

Hi , you have just made my day, l bought det 800 in 1979 /80 , can't quiet remember, from a guy in Doncaster , he also had a 20's invictor , I drove her 500 miles home to lochinver Scotland in 12 hrs overnight! Only issue was dynamo bracket came loose! She became a huge part of our lives, we did thousands of miles in her, inc john o groats to lands end & back in 85 for a charity run incorporating the motor one hundred at silverstone, very very wet! Unfortunately I had to sell her in 93 to help purchase a business, my dad took her away, l couldn't! A guy in Motherwell who'd been asking me to sell her to him bought her, & she seemed to fall off the radar, l tried to find her several times to no avail, l moved to the USA in 2003, & still am a rover man, l have three p6 2000tc on various stages of repair, l doubt det is still available, but if you have any idea were she has ended up I'd love to contact & speak to the new owner, l have hundreds of photos of her l could share, all my best , Keith

Welcome to the forum Keith, great story and thanks for sharing. DET 800 is showing on the DVLA website as untaxed since 2009 which means it could be almost anywhere
