Hi all looking for original type D light clips when I first got the car elastic bands held the lenses in. I have thought of modifying some distributor clips if I can find any long enough . Iain

Hi Iain, I think that you will find that these clips are a bit like hen's teeth !
I think that you will need to keep a look out at various Autojumbles, I have got
some old D lamps for spares that way.
Try giving these people a call, they are currently breaking a P2 :

Is there some reason why the D lamp glass retaining wires sold by Paul Beck (item 767W, £2.25 each) can't be used or adapted for this purpose?

I think that its the external spring clip that Iain is looking for,
not the internal ones. The later produced D Lamps had a knurled
screw to keep the body of the lamp shut on the backplate.

The external spring clip fastening on these earlier D lamps sounds like a rather vulnerable arrangement and a potential pain in the butt when it comes undone, drops off and can't be replaced without major hassle. Give me the knurled screw- with a bit of Loctite on it- any day of the week.
