My 1936 12hp s/s front wheel bearings need replacing.
Can anyone tell me whether P4 taper roller bearings fit this model? If so, the JR Wadhams complete kit looks a good buy.
Also, I tried to fit a modern rubber-cased replacement oil (grease) seal, and was unable (with hand tools and a vice) to fit it. The recess in the hub seems too roughly-finished and chews up the casing of the seal.
Could anyone comment?

What is the Chassis number of the car in question?. Some very early P2s were a little unusual in this respect.

If its Chassis no 641250, Richard? The P2 workshop manual lists part no 3573 for the bearing . That is the same part number as the P4 60, 75,90 and 105 (its in that parts book) and equates to an SKF K14123 or K14274 or Unipart GHB 159.

Forgot to mention, the older oil seals were metal cased, maybe the modern one supplied is just oversize. Where is the hub rough? - is the finish rough overall or just at the top?

The same hub was used at least to 1960. We probably have some usable spares in the Club Stores.

I managed to get a correct set of bearings (SKF/Timken) and oil (grease?) seals from the local bearing suppliers (Derby Bearings). I got my local garage to press out the old outer races from the hub and fit the new races, also the larger inner bearing + seal.
I was rather impressed by the grease catcher arrangement ("fence" and drainhole): the old oil seal was totally useless but no grease had found its way onto the brake linings. The bore in the hub was somewhat roughly turned throughout.
