Zenith carburettor

Hi,
My 1947 16 "Petunia" is fitted with a Zenith 36V1 carburettor, rather than the Solex that the handbook refers to. Does anyone know if this was a popular conversion and what car the carb. would have been originally fitted to?
The car runs well, albeit a bit thirsty. She starts easily with very little choke, probably because the mixture is too rich. I looked at the plugs and they are blacker than they should be. I'm a bit wary about adjusting the carb. as, as I said earlier, she's running and starting well and I don't want to make things worse. On classic cars I've previously owned, I've fiddled with the carb. and often ended up worse than when I started. The handbook obviously gives instructions on adjusting the Solex carb. but I expect the slow running adjustment and mixture control are easy to identify on the Zenith, I haven't looked that closely yet.
Any information and advice would be gratefully received.
