Hi I am tidying up me rover over the winter months and was wondering what the is the purpose of the channel piece on top of the bonnet side panel is for it is held on by lots of screws ( The wrong ones at the moment, see picture) should this area have a fabric strip on it to stop the bonnet tops rubbing on the side panels ? is this what the screws are for ?
Appreciate any help on this, thanks
Mike
Side panel question
Re: Side panel question
In most cases there is a narrow strip of black bonnet lacing trapped between the metal
strip and the top edge of the panel. It very slightly protrudes over the edge, so that it
gives a good seal when the bonnet top is closed. The screw heads are positioned correctly
on the top of your side panel.

You can see some pictures here: http://wp.me/pXLKy-1ic
The webbing strip makes the top of the side panel more flexible and reduces rattle. I had got mine from Scott old auto rubber.

Re: Side panel question
The webbing should be lubricated with oil every now and then according to what I've been told, this stops it drying out and going hard it also helps preventing rust where it rubs against the paintwork and provided a little more weatherproofing...So I was informed
