Cylinder head commonality

Hi All,
Was wondering, as I now have to source a cylinder head for my 10 special 1933, if the heads on these were unique to the model or whether a head from a 10/25 would fit if I were able to find one?

I cant answer your question, but Mike Couldry might, do I assume you bought Andrew's block

Hi Paul,
I bought the complete engine and gearbox (minus head) so I hopefully have something decent to work with.
Picked it up today.

Had a great morning with Andrew - he has a fantastic collection of projects, is very helpful and a really good source of info.

I have been on to Mike a couple of times - he managed to find me a head gasket which I hope to put to good use soon. I'm investigating a few other c/h options so will give mike a break for a while.

With all these 10 specials coming out of the woodwork maybe we need our own section?

I am glad you are your way to getting it sorted, Andrew has been living and breathing Rovers for a long time and is always full of useful info.

I see no reason why a late 10/25 head should not fit. So far as I know the only difference between the heads is the number of studs fixing the manifold (8 & 6) and the shape of the waterway around the central stud.
Head gaskets (in stock) should also be interchangeable

Thanks everyone for replies. Engine is now running after major works. Found a replacement head from Mike Evans which has been fusion welded and refaced. Valves were engineered from singer originals and a new set of studs and rocker shaft spacers were made.

I am endebted to Chris Whitehead who remetaled the crank, line bored the case and re-assembled the short engine. I fixed the head and got the engine back in and she is now running quite well, although the weather has prevented a serious trip out to test properly. I did about a mile before the exhaust came adrift underneath but got that sorted and returned home.

Have been sorting out silly issues that could have left me at the side of the road (a broken wire from the dizzy to the coil caused intermittent starting and a hole in the carb float was tricky to find and sort). She still isn't running perfectly but I'm trying to learn how she is against how she should be and manage my expectations accordingly.

With no mot to pass, I'm looking forward to some dry weather to try her out with all the family.
