1908 Rover in Stockport

Post by Andywoodsmoor » Tue Oct 07, 2014 11:58 pm

Hi, I live in Woodsmoor in Stockport and we are researching the history of the area. We found these pictures of a 1907/08 Rover:

and this article, which says the car is 1907 although the VCC plate says 1908:

Some of the historical info we have found is of the Lomas family who owned this 1907/08 Rover (reg NC 3368) We believe in the 70s it was restored by Frank Smith in Alderley Edge. Do you have anything you could add to the story in terms of the car's significance at that time - perhaps how much it cost, what it would mean in terms of status, how many have survived, is the car on your register?
I run a Classic Car Show in Woodmoor each year in aid of charity it would be wonderful if we could track this car down in the hope of bringing it to our Show.
We have found another car link to Woodsmoor- Swallow Sidecars were initially built in a workshop in Woodsmoor by William Walmsley, before he moved to Blackpool, met William Lyons and formed SS Cars/ Jaguar
Thanks for your help

Hi Andy - your second photograph is not the same car, that is not a Rover. Best of luck with your research.

Thanks Stewart, I hadn't realised that. The 2 pictures with people are the actual car, as the older lady in the third photo was the little girl in the first one which was the hook for the Stockport Express Article
