Re: 1926 Rover 9/20 2 seater parts wanted
Rob, apparently missed this post again! I have an old worm gear, and its got 5 teeth, and my parts book also shows 5 leads. My parts book shows a 30 tooth worm, which would give a 6:1 diff. The 10/25 book actually gives a diff ratio for that model of 5.2:1, which sort of makes sense for a bit more po...

Re: ignition timing
Surely to retard the spark you would turn dizzy body in the direction of rotation of the rotor? My rule of thumb for timing, in the absence of real data, is as far advanced as possible, JUST short of pinging. You should do this setting with the grade of fuel you habitually use, but expect some pingi...

Re: P3 brake bleeding problems
In my experience of bleeding brakes, I have found 2 different methods may be used, depending on the type of system - but dont remember which is which. Basically there is the plain 'depress pedal with bleeder open, lock bleeder before raising pedal', AND 'with bleeder open, stomp HARD and fast on the...

Re: 1923 4hp motorcycle
I have a book on the 4hp engine, but its undated, so not sure if its relevant. It came from british-motorcycle-parts.com. On timing its vague. Basically, there is a gauge rod lowered through where the compression lowering tap goes; set advance/retard to fully advanced; turn over until inlet valve is...

Re: P3 brake bleeding problems
Its fairly common these days to refurbish wheel and master cylinders by over boring and fitting a stainless sleeve, so either saving a 1.125" cylinder (providing there is enough thickness to overbore) shouldnt be too hard, or even sleeving a 1.25" cylinder back to 1.125", which might be easier. jp 2...

Re: Rover 9/20 DP7764
John,
Any chance you can add some pics of the inside of your hood please - I have no hood as such, and very little of the ironwork on mine, and need help to see what it looks like and how it works.
thanks
john

Re: 9/20 information
I now have the car starting well and running OK, if getting a bit hotter than I expected - tight new engine maybe? Initial starting problems were caused by the magneto being a LONG way off, and its drive being loose. Almost all the wiring is done except the rear lights, which I have yet to decide on...

Re: Rover 9/20 DP7764
John, You have done very well there, especially in the completeness of the car! Mine is still a work in progress - see http://www.oldclassiccar.co.uk/forum/phpbb/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=18536&sid=d6de612aae2fd938432bb09622d6e5b8 Havent seen another 9 yet with the same windscreen as mine anywhere, and...

Re: 1926 Rover 9/20 2 seater parts wanted
Rob, Sorry I missed your post this long. Turning the propshaft with one back wheel stopped I came to 5.8, which dosent seem unreasonable when a 10/25 manual list top gear as 5.2. There is nothing in the 9/20 Maintenance manual I have giving diff ratio or gearbox ratios. A 9/20 having a lower numeric...

Re: 9/20 information
Mike, Yes, this is an ex Craig Lukeman car - chassis (and engine) no 50074. I have now solved the steering wheel bolt with some local help cutting me a thread - 27/32x18tpi. One piece of data I need is the diff ratio - the speedo drive does not seem correct in terms of the revs/mile in the speedo he...
