P2 freewheel and differential

I have 2 queries I would appreciate some help with. Firstly-Threading the Freewheel cable through the gearbox- the first time I tried this the cable went though the gearbox with no problem. However I believe in my ignorance I overtightened the cable with the result that the outer sheath seems to hav...

Re: Fuel sender wiring

Thanks for the offer Chris but I am way out on a limb down in Cornwall. I did obtain a spare secondhand oil level sender unit but it appears not to work either- the coil is soaked in oil which I guess is a common hazard. I may send this off for repair in due course but actually the new Holden 'Smith...

Re: Fuel sender wiring

Thanks Luli and Derrick for your input. Having tried various wiring alternatives to no avail I came to the conclusion that although the gauge had been working previously it was no longer! Fortunately I had a spare and once fitted this worked. Hurrah. However I then discovered that the oil level butt...

Re: Fuel sender wiring

Hi Luli. The gauge is not stuck in any position. When all connected up it shows empty until I switch on ignition then it immediately swings off the top of the scale. I have looked at your links before but didnt find anything on the location of any earthing/second wire to the sender unit/ tank or res...

Re: timing marks on the fly wheel 1949 p3 75.

I'm not an expert but I can quote you from Pitmans The Book of the Rover 1958 which lists only 3 markings for the flywheel of 1947-9 models viz TDC, FA4 or FA6 (firing point of No1 cylinder when the octane selector is set at 40 on the sliding scale) and EP for exhaust peak (where No1 exhaust valve i...

Re: Fuel sender wiring

Thanks Derrick. I dont think the float is stuck- the sender unit in brand new never been used and all I have done is replace the new short arm float with an original float with longer arm.Besides the gauge needle goes off the top of the scale and so fast I dont think it could just be reading 'full'....

Fuel sender wiring

I wonder if anyone can help. I have just replaced the fuel sender unit (new unit from Holden) in my 39 14 DHC and cant get the gauge to work. I tested the setup a while back before I installed the unit (with a loose earth wire to the bumper) and it worked then so I am not sure what I have now done w...

Re: Fuel tank worries

Thanks Luli for your helpful comments and pics. Your wiring diagram is for a slightly later model I think (I do have one for the 39 model - which I have blown up to A1 size colour coded for use in the garage (not that I can tell the colours on the original wires because they have faded so much but I...

Re: Fuel tank worries

Thanks Paul for your advice. I really dont want to remove the tank if I can help it but I will look at draining and washing as you say. Before I do that though I have a problem with the fuel gauge which I would appreciate some help with if anyone knows the answer. The only wire left on my gauge (its...

Fuel tank worries

I am preparing to fit a fuel sender unit in my fuel tank (and reserve switch unit too in due course) but am unsure whether it is better to drain the fuel and have the explosive fumes remaining in the tank or leave the fuel in the tank. I shall be adding an earth wire which it seems should be on the ...
