Please gents, what is this little tap on the right side of the engine in my 14? Is it anything to do with the cooling system?

Re: Over heating P2

 Well it was a bit better. I bumbled around the lanes for about 6 miles and all was OK. As soon as I got onto a main road and increased the speed (45mph-ish) the temp shot up. I eventually pulled up outside a lovely pub and after an hour or so, during which we both cooled down, I pottered home ...

Re: Over heating P2

Removed thermostat housing to find no thermostat! I guess that hints at overheating problems in the past. The hole between the thermostat housing and the water pump was almost closed by hard orange crud so I've clean that out and given everything a good flush. I'll take it for a test run later if it...

Re: Over heating P2

Thanks DH. This morning I drained the cooling system and flushed clean water through the rad and the engine. I refilled the rad and ran the car. I expected the water level in the rad to drop as water got drawn around the system but the level stayed the same. I took the car for a run and it overheate...

Re: Over heating P2

I know the car has done less than 30 miles in the last 3 years so perhaps sludge has built up in the rad. Tomorrow I'll drain the cooling system and give the rad a good flush. I take it I'm OK to use modern anti-freeze?

Over heating P2

I took delivery of my 1938 14 today. On it's first journey it overheated. After about 6 miles of country lanes I began to smell the overheating and the temp gauge was high so I stopped. The rad took a couple of pints. I left it to cool for 20 mins and continued. After another 5 miles on a main road ...

Re: Another Newbie and P2 Owner

It's a runner Stew. It's in pretty good nick. Looks like a lot of money has been spent on the engine. The bodywork is good apart from a bit of rust along the bottom of the doors. I'm not an expert on Rovers so I will be after some advise as to what is right and wrong with the car.
