Re: Engine Problems
Mark, Good to hear you are working on the car again and encouraging for me to get back to doing mine! I've written about this before, but I cannot stress how important it is to drain the old fuel from a car that hasn't been used for a while and put in some fresh petrol. This will have a huge impact ...

Re: 1934 Rover 12 gear change
Hi Len, Re gear changing; you are correct that on all changes, up and down, you must double-de-clutch. However, it is only necessary to rev the engine in neutral when changing down. Having revved the engine in neutral you wait until the revs start dying away and then slip it into the lower gear. The...

Re: New Member - 1947 P2
Mike, If you have a leaking axle oil seal the brake shoes may be contaminated. I had mine reclined by Saftek at Cleckheaton, who dispatched them back almost by return. That was some years ago of course! Worth telling them that the shoes are for a car with rod operated brakes so they use the most app...

Re: 1934 Rover 12 running boards
Len, I used Evo Stick to do my P2 but I couldn’t say if it was the best glue for the job, only that it worked for me. Fortunately I had a tin of the solvent based contact adhesive as I’ve found that some of the non solvent or water based versions don’t work very well. My Tourer has wooden running bo...

Re: 37 P2 Restoration Progress
Hi Ian, Great to see some pictures of your car. It certainly is looking very ship shape as, I must say, is your garage. Makes me feel inclined to have a tidy up! The present task with my P2 is sorting the wiring and putting the dashboard back in, although I’ve got a bit side tracked sorting out the ...

Re: Vulcanised rubber gearbox / freewheel cover .. rivets along the bottom of each side
Hi Ian, The only thought I have is that the rivet is there to hold or locate the tunnel carpet in place. The squares of leather may just be to add some strength to the rivet through the rubber so it doesn’t pull through. What is on the outside? I’d almost expect there to be a stud of some kind, whic...

Re: P2 Stepboard valance colour
Hi Rob, Thanks for posting these pictures. It’s all looking pretty good to me and seeing your lovely car is encouraging me to get on with jobs left to do to my P2 Saloon. I went through the pictures before reading your post and had to go back to them to see what you meant about alignment, so it’s pr...

Re: New Member - 1947 P2
Hi Mike, Welcome to the RSR. Only one day to go and you can begin the joy of owning a Rover! Always good to hear that someone new is getting involved with the preservation of these lovely old cars. You will find a good deal of support from other members and, probably, a lot of your future queries al...

Flashing indicator conversion and LED bulbs
Further to Rob Holmwood’s recent post in the new member section, I thought it would be useful to mention in a separate thread ‘Classic Dynamo & Regulator Conversions’ as a source for parts and information for anyone who is upgrading their lights or installing flashing indicators. Looking at their we...

Re: Piston problem
John, Good luck with your endeavours and well done for getting the No1 big end cap off. I’d suggest removing the piston to see what has happened there before turning attention on 2,3 and 4. The No1 big end journal has some scoring by the looks of it but you can drop off and replace the other three t...
