Re: Bringing a 1939 '10 engine back to life
The work this Winter (2016-17) has concentrated on getting the rear of the chassis painted, meaning that the body had to be lifted back off Lucy again, then a thorough strip and clean of all the components from the rear of the chassis, to permit a good inspection and painting. Having started on the ...

Re: Bringing a 1939 '10 engine back to life
Well, I owe everyone a big apology for the lack of any progress report last Winter (same procedure - remove Lucy from her slumbers, skate her out under the two-post ramps, work on her for 3 weeks solid, then put her away again.....). In brief, what myself and my pal were able to do last year was to;...

Re: P2 Clutch problem
Hi Mike, Thank you for your reply. Between yourself and Luli, this has given me some food for thought, as I know that (from my initial inspection of the running gear on my '10) I am going to face this challenge - at least in part. Building-up the shims in stages, so they can be removed in stages (if...

Re: P2 Clutch problem
Mike, Presumably you would be able to remove the shims one-by-one as the friction plate wears? Or is the metal part of the driven-plate also thicker than a "standard" clutch plate, thus meaning that the clutch will be excessively worn first? I think that I may need to go down this route with my '10,...

Re: ASSIGNMENT P6
A quick footnote to say that BMIHT Gaydon do now list this as a DVD, including the accompanying two videos of the Monte Carlo and the safety film.
My own VHS copy, purchased years ago, finally succumbed to Highlands-induced mould, to which end I purchased a DVD replacement last year.

Re: Bringing a 1939 '10 engine back to life
Tim, Yes, I did try to free-off the clutch whilst the engine was running - but forgot to "give it some beans" after the engine had cooled once again. If I can get the link for the video (a dialed-down low resolution version) of the eventually successful start-up, then you can just hear my ham-fisted...

Re: correct oil?
On advice from Mike Couldrey, I removed my Fram bypass oil filter assembly from the 1939_10 engine before recomissioning (as per adjacent posts) as it did not seem to offer much in the way of filtration. Not least is the expense of changing the cartridge, as my old and original item was totally bung...

Re: Bringing a 1939 '10 engine back to life
The final day for working on Lucy, sadly..... The best news is that the compressions that we managed to restore yesterday during the running-in have maintained themselves; turning the engine over on the handle this morning, all four compressions were good and balanced across the cylinders. I removed...

Re: Bringing a 1939 '10 engine back to life
Having started-out today with the knowledge that this was "last chance saloon" with regard to the work on Lucy, the very first job was to sort-out the starter motor, as it was clearly incapable of starting the engine! Extracating the motor from the side of the engine required removing the starter ho...

Re: Bringing a 1939 '10 engine back to life
Well, today should have brought a running report, but progress was a little slow this morning. Having got the sparking plugs into the engine, it was clear that compressions measured yesterday on the oscilloscope were a) real , and b) poor. That is, the compression feel on the starting handle was nex...
