Re: ROVER 12 ENGINE PROBLEMS
Hi Len, The saga of your friends car continues. I thought you said it was a six cylinder model? No matter, it seems to me that the local garage is the best place for it. I think everyone has racked their brains for a possible solution, especially you, so it really is time to involve the experts. On ...

Re: ENGINE PROBLEMS
Hi Len, A number of us have followed this issue with interest so do, please, update us once the garage resolves the problem. Did you determine why No1 had no compression and was this one that had bent valves before? Was just thinking that, as the car stands for long periods, the cam followers may be...

Re: Luvax Vane Type Dampers
Hi Willem, Reading this thread reminded me of something David Moseley had said on the same subject so I searched the archive and found an entry from him dated Dec 4th 2014. This was in relation to a 1935 Rover 14 Sports Saloon. “My experience with Luvax shocks on my 1936 12 Tourer has been entirely ...

Re: P2 14 HP ignition timing
Len, I’ve never worked on one of the six cylinder engines however, looking at the pictures you have posted, I’m wondering if the valves open far enough to make contact with the piston - even at t.d.c? This is clearly your concern regarding the previously bent valve and, now, bent push rods. When the...

Re: timing chain
Len, I don’t think I’ve ever known a double timing chain jump a tooth. It’s not like a timing belt, after all! However, if it did, then surely more than one valve would be affected? Suggest you start off by checking the compression etc and ignition timing. Does the car have fresh petrol as this will...

Re: P2 14 HP ignition timing
Len, Looking back through this thread, Luli has already given you the valve timing instructions. It’s not easy to convey this sort of information but I think, as always, he has done a good job. However, I think your friend should invest in a workshop manual so you can refer to it in real time while ...

Freewheel- Letter from Gus
Hi all, Reading through the latest Freewheel I was fascinated to see the letter from Gus with a picture of a soft top Rover, asking what body it has. I don’t have the answer to that but looking at the pictures of this very interesting car I’m inclined to think it must be a ‘special’ of some kind and...

Re: Petrol Tank complete (07625) 12hp 39-47
David, I used a similar sealing product from Rustbusters on my Saloon tank and it’s worked ok. POR 15 make excellent products and i can recommend highly their engine enamel and rust inhibiting chassis paint; better than Hammerite, even before they took the good bits out! Re the reserve function; I’v...

Re: SU Downdraft carburettor in place of Solex
Hi Luli, Looks very nice and it will be interesting to hear how it compares. A small point; I notice that, during the rebuild, the mixture control lever has been mounted onto the opposite side of the carb. An easy mistake during reassembly, but it means your mixture cable will arrive onto the wrong ...

Re: SU Downdraft carburettor in place of Solex
Good points raised there! I must confess that my earliest experiences of the SU was back in the early 70s with my older brother’s Morris Minor and subsequent Austin Healey Sprite; both side draft carbs and subject to poor running if the dash pot was allowed to run dry of oil. By comparison I had a F...
