Re: Original Lifting Jack

Hi Chris, So are you saying that you have a column jack / ratchet handle available for sale
which would be suitable for a 1938/39 P2 ?? If so, then I'm interested in this jack, as this is
the only item / tool I am missing for my P2. Or have I misunderstood your last post.

Re: Engine Oil?

The formulations required for modern vehicles are very different from those needed for older vehicles. Oils for modern engines comply with the latest API ratings of SN/CF and specific ACEA and OEM specifications dealing with fuel efficiency, extended drain intervals and aftermarket exhaust treatment...

Re: Tappets

Correct, Rule of 9 is only for 4 cyl engine, you use Rule of 13 for 6 cyl engine:

The “Rule of 13″ is a way to know which valve to adjust on a 6 cylinder engine.
If 1 and 3 are open, 1 + 12 = 13 and 3 + 10 = 13. Thus 12 and 10 are the valves to adjust.

Re: how much paint?

If you are using a heat gun or blow lamp to soften the paint, then be very careful when you get to the rear end of the body either side of the rear window where the roof section comes down to the centre line (between the rear window and the rear doors. Normally in this area Rover used to "lead load"...

Drive it Day - Sunday 26 April / Why does it happen ??

Every year "Drive It Day" is purposefully held on the Sunday nearest to 23 April. Why? Because it commemorates the 64 cars that left London on the first day of the Thousand Mile Trial on 23 April 1900. The Royal Automobile Club Thousand Mile Trial started in London and passed through Bristol, Birmin...

Re: Hoping to trace my P2 history

Hi Rich, try the following:
LANCASHIRE
Lancashire Record Office, Bow Lane, Preston, PR1 2RE. (01772 533039)
However, Southport vehicle records may be lost, as they should be held by Merseyside
Record Office in Liverpool, but it's worth a call to Preston.

Re: how much paint?

The least dust but most messy is to use Nitromors. Paint it on a panel at a time, then cover it with 1000 gauge plastic sheet and leave for a couple of days. Get hold of the plastic sheet and peel it off the bodywork, it should bring the paint off with it. Then it's a case of doing it again if it ha...

Re: how much paint?

Speak to your paint supplier, it depends what sizes they sell the paint in, 4 - 5 litres (1 gallon) should be enough to have some left over for touching up, and at least it will be the correct match. Also depends on how much you have stripped off (inside & outside, or just outside). Good luck to doi...

Re: Engine Oil?

It is screwed into the side of the oil pan, be careful when you screw it back in to make sure you don't cross thread it and get it all lined up correctly. It's a gauze bypass filter, just wash it out in parts cleaner or paraffin. Some engines have been converted to have a filter on the side of the e...
